History
An initial organizational meeting was held in November 2005 when a group of interested physicians decided to form the group. A steering committee was elected, a mission statement developed and both short and long term goals formalized.
Another organizational meeting was held in Edmonton in June 2006 in conjunction with the Canadian Pain Societies annual conference. This was attended by over 40 health care professionals interested in the care/management of pain. A larger, multi-disciplinary steering committee was elected from those present at the meeting. This group refined the mission and goals and objectives as well as developing a set of by laws.
The official start up meeting was held in Calgary on December 8, 2006. This meeting approved the draft by-laws as presented by the steering committee and elected the first board of directors. They also approved the mission statement. After reviewing the Goals and Objectives it was agreed that, during its first year, the board should concentrate on the following goals: the development of a web site, a networking strategy and an annual meeting.
